Summary:

Stop buying your red meat from a supermarket, clear your freezer, and get some of these products now. Delicious, premium quality meat and great value for money. MuscleFood is proving to be quite the game changer!

For the second of Gymtalk’s MuscleFood reviews we’re going a bit carnivorous.

Millennia ago, or around 2,500 years if you’re a Christian, early man was programmed for just two things: killing and knobbing.

And it was a diet rich in red meat that fueled this frankly fantastic sounding lifestyle.

Thankfully, rather than having to club a seal to death myself, MuscleFood were kind enough to deliver meat right to my back door (ooh er missus).

This gargantuan pack contained such red meaty delight as rump steak, steak hache, and some meaty British pork sausages.

Sounds like a mixed grill at Wetherspoons – except this wasn’t shit or horse (allegedly).

Actually, has anyone asked Lionel Beyeke if cheval was part of his diet?

It could be a key ingredient in his freaky muscle growth.

With this brobdingnagian buffet of meat (probably just an afternoon snack for Louis Cyr), I was not only impressed by the generous proportions but by the price (more on this later).

And what’s even better, the more you buy, the cheaper it becomes.

Bingo!

Matured British Rump Steak

10 x 6-7oz Steaks for £29

Nutritional breakdown (per serving):

Kcal: 229.5

Protein: 34.3g

Carbs: 1.53g

Fat: 9.5g

The nutritional profile of these extra lean rump steaks (high protein, low fat) makes them perfect for those looking to pack on lean muscle mass.

I cook mine rare as a preference with a bit of salt and pepper on each side, but if you have no taste then you can cook it for longer.

After all, what do the French know about food?

The fact that these rumps have been matured for 35 days really shows – they are delicious, tender, and full of flavour.

Indeed, you don’t have to have the palette of Paul Bocuse to notice the difference between these steaks and those from a supermarket.

Great British Hache Steaks

2 x 6oz Steaks for £6

Nutritional breakdown (per serving):

Kcal: 306

Protein: 35.7g

Carbs: 1.53g

Fat: 17g

MuscleFood’s steak hache was my personal favourite.

They’re essentially chunky burgers, but unlike pretty much any burger equivalent you might buy from the supermarket, these are 94% beef and do not shrink even one iota while cooking.

They are quick and easy to cook and delicious on their own or with a bit of seasoning.

There is, however, more saturated fat here (6.8g per serving), making it more of a bulking product than something to aid lean muscle mass.

Meaty Pork British Sausages

6 Sausages for £3.20

Nutritional breakdown (per serving):

Kcal: 160.4

Protein: 11.6g

Carbs: 1.9g

Fat: 11.8g

These meaty sausages fall under the ‘BBQ Meats’ section of the MuscleFood website, but they are delightful grilled or cooked.

They’re beautifully seasoned, 70% pork (which means they won’t break down/leak fat when cooking), and along with MuscleFood’s brilliant protein bread, can provide both a delicious and nutritious take on the typically greasy/unhealthy sausage breakfast sandwich.

Summary

While chicken is the staple of pretty much any bodybuilders’ diet, it can come somewhat dull without a decent repertoire of recipes.

Red meat could – and should – be used more often to add variation and higher calorific figures.

And when the products taste this good and are such value for money, you’d be an absolute fool or a gay caveman to not invest in some of MuscleFood’s brilliant red meat products!

  1. Hi Greg.

Really appreciate your reviews on Musclefood.com.

Am very tempted to place an order but I cannot believe the value for money if the meats are of the quality you suggest.

Looking forward to your reviews of the non-meat products – the protein pasta sounds really intriguing.

    Thanks again.

    Andy

    1. Hi Andy

No problem, it really is as good as it looks.

I’m struggling to understand it myself but the proof of the pudding is in the eating etc.

      Also, non-meat is out now:
