The age-old bodybuilding conundrum: how to make tasteless food interesting without spoiling gains or overdosing on macros.
The oh so often solution: once again it’s our good friends over at MuscleFood.
Snooping around their website shows what a significant impact MuscleFood are having on the UK sporting industry right now.
A quick look at their sporting endorsers turns into a who’s who of incredible home grown GB talents… and Scottish rugby players.
A small sample:
Joe Calzaghe
Danny Care
Louis Smith
Ronnie Coleman
Benedict Magnusson
(The last two obviously aren’t British but fucking hell)
I really could go on.
For this latest review I’ll be looking at one of MuscleFood’s partners: Walden Farms.
The extent of their range with MuscleFood extends to ‘calorie free’ sauces and the ones I’ve sampled for this review are Honey BBQ and Chocolate Syrup.
Now these may not sound overly spectacular – until, that is, you look at the nutritional breakdown.
Normally I like to list the key metrics per products but in this case it would simply be ‘0’ all round:
0 calories, 0g sugar, 0g fat, 0g protein.
Now this may just sound like water, and indeed the principle ingredient is h20, but it’s a cavalcade of spices and extracts that bring these sauces to life.
I’ve been a huge advocate of Levi Roots’ jerk sauce as the accompaniment to chicken even since he sang his way into Peter Jones’ undoubtedly giant heart.
But after tasting Walden Farms’ brilliant Honey BBQ concoction I feel I may be turning.
This is not what I would strictly call a sauce as in ketchup or Daddies – but then you’d have to pile on the sugar to make it thicker.
I’ve been using this as a marinade or glaze.
Either add it to your chicken and leave it to marinate for a few hours beforehand or add it to your steak hache for the final 30 seconds of griddling and the result is simply delicious.
The perfect antidote to bland chicken and plain rice for the calorie-conscious bodybuilder.
Making everyday feel like a cheat day!
This zero calorie syrup is simply fantastic.
Add it to your porridge, slather it on protein pancakes, or just simply pour it straight into your mouth.
It really doesn’t matter.
Walden Farms Chocolate Syrup is literally like eating air – sweet delicious, chocolately air.
Yes, it isn’t quite the same as a high street chocolate brand, but what the fuck are you really expecting?
On the real (ugh English lit lecturer shuddering in his grave):
If you’re the kind of person who craves chocolate and regularly fails their diet by pounding a 400g bag of mini eggs in one sitting then you need to buy this product.
It’ll save your gains!
The chocolate syrup and honey barbecue sauce both come in 12oz bottles which will set you back £3.99.
As I’ve said above, for this great price you get a fantastic product and peace if mind that you can keep on track with your diet without the inevitable depression that the lack of variety breeds.
Once more, MuscleFood have found some absolute corkers to offer to you lucky, lucky general public.
Walden Farms sauces are delicious, flexible, great value for money, and of course a calorie free zone.
Can’t praise these products enough. Get buying now!
