Summary:

With an amazing taste and moron-proof cooking requirements, these pancakes make an ideal addition to any lifter's arsenal of breakfast foods.

The thought of pancakes on a regular basis is something which excites me greatly, and I’m sure a lot of people would agree.

A big trend in the protein cooking scene – i.e. where we just add protein to literally fucking everything (still waiting for protein Haribo though) – is pancakes, and I recently got a hold of some Bodybuilding Warehouse Protein Pancake mixture to try out, specifically the Banana Caramel flavour.

Let’s take a closer look…

Product overview

The Premium Protein Pancakes blend comes in a bag just like a standard whey protein powder, and, ordered direct from Bodybuilding Warehouse, you get 20 servings for just under £15 at 50 grams per serving,

The mix is designed to be used with water not milk, and only needs 150ml per 50 grams of powder.

It’s supposed to be “idiot proof”, so we’ll see about that in a moment.

Taste and texture

Imagine waking up and eating mighty fine pancakes every morning without needing to soak them in maple syrup for sweetness, and this is what you get with these Premium Protein Pancakes.

They taste awesome as shit – and even better with some Walden Farms calorie free Maple Syrup.

Texture is as you’d imagine – fluffy and delicious – as long as you shake it enough to remove any lumps.

Plus, if you’re feeling like a ‘cheat day’ (every day for fat fucks like me) they are awesome with bacon:

Top points here.

Ease of use

I was always shit at making pancakes, which is why pancake day when my grandmother used to come round was so amazing, she’d make piles of pancakes and we’d feast all night until we couldn’t handle any more.

Well she’s in a home now, and definitely won’t be making me any pancakes anytime soon, so I guess I better make them myself.

And I can safely say these protein pancakes are moron proof, and cook brilliantly with just a little oil in a hot pan.

I made them about twice the size of a Scotch/American Pancake.

Make sure you really shake the mixture up a lot so it’s smooth though as lumps can be a pain.

I also used coconut oil because I’m a disgusting middle class snob and other oils simply won’t do.

Ingredients

Considering how awesome this tastes, and how quick it is to make, I was really impressed with the basic and pretty damn solid ingredients list.

Containing a 50/50 protein blend of Whey Protein Concentrate & Micellar Casein, Ultrafine Oats, natural flavouring and some sucrose for sweetening, there’s nothing out of the ordinary here.

The nutritionals, per 50g serving, are as follows:

Calories 195kcal
Protein 22.01g
Carbs (of which sugar) 19.16g (1.69g)
Fat (of which saturates) 2.89g (1.01g)

This provides some decent macros at 22 grams of protein and 19 grams of carbs per serving.

I did have to add an extra bit of protein to this (sometimes bacon, oh hell yes) so it’s not really a one-stop solution to breakfast, and this is probably the only area that lets it down.

I’ve made protein pancakes myself using these ingredients, but they never came out as great as the Bodybuilding Warehouse ones, so I guess they just have the ratios absolutely perfect.

Value for money

Each serving works out at under a quid, and in my opinion that’s pretty damn good value for a delicious breakfast that satisfies cravings.

In fact, if you buy the 2kg bag, it’s 72 pence per serving!

Sounds good to me.
